Wuhan United and Direct Relief Partner Again to Airlift 2.7 Tons of Medical Supplies to Xiaogan, China

After donating more than 200,000 surgical masks to Wuhan Union Hospital, Direct Relief partnered with Wuhan United again to successfully delivered 20 pallets of urgently needed medical supplies, including 37,000 surgical masks, 9,000 protective suits and 50,000 medical gloves to Xiaogan Central Hospital. These much-needed supplies will help medical relief efforts to help fight the coronavirus in the city of Xiaogan.

Delivery of 2.7 Tons of Medical Supply to Xiaogan Central Hospital

Xiaogan, located in the northeast part of Hubei province, lies only 60 kilometers northwest of Wuhan. There have been 918 cases of people infected by the new strain of coronavirus in Xiaogan, representing the city with the third most confirmed cases behind Wuhan and Huanggang. As a 3A hospital, Xiaogan Central Hospital is one of the designated hospitals for medical treatment. Xiaogan Central Hospital issued an announcement accepting social donations on January 26.

Union Hospital affiliated to Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology(aka Wuhan Union Hospital) was founded in 1866 and has the longest history in Wuhan. The hospital has 5,000 beds. There were 5,703,000 outpatient visits, 227,000 admissions and 121,000 operations annually. The hospital has currently more than 8,000 staff members.
